Etobicoke Girls Dominate the Futsal Court
RELEASE - The Etobicoke Energy U-16 Girls are the current and 3-peat Ontario Futsal Champions. The 2007, 08, 09 tournaments were the first three provincial futsal championships put on by the OSA and as three time winners and by soccer tradition, some would say the trophy should be retired and permanently given to the Etobicoke team ....but who cares about tradition, what this talented group of girls really wants is some competition......well, they may finally get their wish. On the weekend of Jan 22-24 at the Direct Energy Centre in downtown Toronto the “Energy Girls” will represent their club and province in the first ever “Toronto International Futsal Tournament” This event will bring together Canadian, American and International competition competing in a men’s and women’s open and under 18 & 16 divisions for both boys and girls. The Etobicoke girls are busy training and refining their game so that they will be ready for the challenge come January. Head coach Tony D’Amato and his staff have been working diligently with this squad for the past 5 years and these 1994 born players have been together since the age of 9 when they formed a competitive team representing the Etobicoke Youth Soccer Club. They have consistently competed against the top teams in Ontario in their age group, rising all the way to the OYSL in 2009 season. This year the focus will switch to showcasing the team for post secondary school playing opportunities in Canada and the USA and coach D’Amato along with the club technical director Mr Joe Schiraldi have already formulated a plan to attend several spring and summer showcase events, including the “Score in North Carolina” So come out and cheer on the team and see what I’m sure will be some amazing futsal action....perhaps we might even see the “Energy Girls” make it four in a row! |
