Pickering Soccer Club Hosts Guyana Women’s National Team
RELEASE - As the Guyana Women’s National team prepares for Stage II of World Cup Qualifying in Trinidad May 10-14, 2010, the team will be stopping over in Pickering for a week long training camp.
This successful team is made up of players from across North America playing at College, University and Clubs in the US and Canada. Included on the roster are Pickering’s own Briana DeSouza, Kayla DeSouza and Ashley Rodrigues. Technical Director - Mark Rodrigues (also a former Pickering Soccer Club Coach), is thrilled about the team’s success. Guyana is unbeaten to date in International play and the hope is that the team will keep this streak going in their quest to get to the World Cup finals in Germany in 2011. “The team has extremely talented players” states Rodrigues. “We are thankful to the Pickering Soccer Club Head Coach, Tony LaFerrara who has been instrumental in assisting the Guyana National Program. The girls are happy to be playing at home, while preparing for their upcoming games.” The team will be training in Pickering from May 3rd to 7th. Between practices, on Wednesday May 5th, at 9pm, on the Pickering “Power” Turf field, the team is scheduled to play a friendly with Pickering Power U15 Boys OYSL team. “We are seeing the results of good coaching, when our players are making it to the National platform.” states Club Head Coach, Tony LaFerrara. “We wish the girls all the best in Stage II of the World Cup Qualifying and we are extremely pleased to host Guyana’s Women’s National team.
