Canada to play World Cup soccer qualifiers in Toronto

(CBC) - Canada will plays its next round of home World Cup soccer qualifiers at Toronto's BMO Field. The Canadian Soccer Association made the announcement at the downtown launch of its new Umbro team uniform. The home games for the Canadian men are June 12 against Honduras, Sept. 7 against Panama and Oct. 12 against Cuba. Canada is preparing for the third round of qualifying play in the CONCACAF regions, which covers North and Central America and the Caribbean. >>> |

Kara Lang adjusting to life after soccer

(John F. Molinaro, Sportsnet.ca) - You can take the player out of the game, but you can't take the game out of the player. On Jan. 5, 2011, Kara Lang, an eight-year veteran of the Canadian women's soccer team, announced her retirement, citing persistent knee problems as the reason for her calling it quits. Lang was only 24 when she walked away from the sport she loved, a cruel and premature end to a career spent in loyal service to her country on the field. Born in Calgary, Lang made her debut for Canada as a 15-year-old in a match against Scotland on Mar. 1, 2002. She quickly became a mainstay with the national team, scoring 34 goals in 92 appearances, and helped Canada reach the semifinals of the 2003 Women's World Cup in the United States when she scored two goals in six games. >>> |

Etobicoke Energy to OYSL

(RELEASE) - The Etobicoke Energy Under 18 Girls soccer team will be competing in the province of Ontario’s top loop of youth soccer, the “Ontario Youth Soccer League” in 2012. Not only is the Etobicoke Youth Soccer Club extremely proud of the U-18 girls for becoming the fourth Etobicoke team to join the OYSL for the 2012 season but also so is the soccer loving community of Etobicoke, which is very excited to be welcoming teams from all over the province to their home field at Centennial Park Stadium in Etobicoke this summer. >>> |
